Shin guards and long socks covering them are a must for all District Sports leagues. Players without shin guards will not be allowed to participate. As for footwear, any athletic footwear is permissible on both turf and grass fields (this includes molded cleats). Each player receives a league-issued jersey.
Games are generally held at metro- accessible schools and recreation centers in the District of Columbia. Fields surfaces are mostly artificial (turf).
Leagues generally cost between $75 and $85 per individual. Full team registration fees are aggregated based on the price per individual.

Generally speaking each season is 8 weeks in length with teams playing one game per week. Typically, each league has a playoff tournament for which the top regular season finishers competing in a playoff tournament.

What is the level of play in the leagues?
District Sports strives to provide soccer playing opportunities for anyone who is seeking a recreational sports experience. Our leagues are suitable for both beginner and advanced palyers. Where possible District Sports divides leagues into tiers. The tiers are broken out as follows:
Division 1- Advanced Rec (advanced players may enjoy this league as long as they realize they are playing rec soccer with less experienced players).
Division 2- Beginner to Intermediate Rec (former college varsity and club players should not play in this league).
Are there referees in these games?
Yes and where possible referees hold United States Soccer Federation certifications. Referees are present primarily for the safety of the players and therefore should be respected. District Sports will not tolerate rough or reckless play, nor abuse of others on the field- including opponents and referees.

All games are played in accordance with standard FIFA rules. In certain leagues (9v9 and 11v11) off sides will be called. Slide-tackling is absolutely prohibited in all leagues. Here are the complete District Sports outdoor soccer rules.
District Sports runs four (4) separate seasons of soccer each year- winter, spring, fall, and summer. During the winter months we run gym indoor leagues and futsal.
